The Tigers just signed some guy named Al Alburquerque to a major league contract. He has absolutely no experience above the double-A level so I am not really clear on why we didn’t sign him to a minor league contract, but that’s not important.
HIS NAME IS AL ALBURQUERQUE
(and yeah, check that extra ‘R’ in there, that’s gonna even worse than Jhonny for the editors)
As commenter doowman pointed out in the previous post, we now have the opportunity for someone to introduce Al Al to FredFred. IS YOUR MIND BLOWN YET, BECAUSE LET ME ASSURE YOU THAT MY MIND IS BLOWN.
Anyways. You better watch out, New Mexico! You’re OURS now!

Here’s to Quirky Al!
(or, since his full name is Alberto, Bert Querq?)
(by the way the extra R way is the original spelling of the name, so it’s more a case of John vs Jon than Jhonny vs Johnny or Jonny…if that makes sense…)
It makes sense, but I still know I’m going to mistype it 1000 times in the season if he ends up actually playing… and everyone else on the internet and in the MSM is going to do the same. :P
Nooo doowman stole my thunder! I thought the exact same thing when I saw we signed him!
Someone needs to give that boy’s parents a stern talking to.
I can’t to hear Rod and Mario when he pitches to Alex Avila!
The Al-Al-Al-Av battery. PLEASE PAWS LET IT BE SO.
Ironically, I call Avila “Double A” not just because of his name, but because he got called up straight from Double A. And now that’s the same thing with Alburquerque (minors level wise)! Hilarious irony!
I have a feeling this guy is going to be a Roar of the Tigers favorite. There are so many things you can do with this guy’s name. I found it amusing that Alberto Alburquerque replaced Fu-Te Ni on the roster. They added 15 letters to the 40-man roster with that move. It must be a record.
Let’s not forget the anagram site……
Alberto Alburquerque’s anagram name is QUARREL TO A QUEER BULB
And for the shortened ‘Al Alburquerque’ he can be QUARREL QUA LUBE. Be still my heart.
Why, oh why am I now singing Weird Al Yankovic’s song “Albuquerque” in my head?
If he continues to pitch like he has been in the minors so far, he just might get to fulfill his lifelong dream — that’s right, a part-time job at The Sizzler.
