The Brawl, revisited

So I said I would have things for you to look at after this weekend, and I am kind of slow, you know, this is a lot of material, but here it is. This can no longer be called “morning” by any stretch of the imagination but at least it’s still Monday.

You can click that drawing to look at it bigger, by the way, although I’m not real sure why you’d want to do so.

In addition to the inky reenactment up above, I have finished with the photos from this first game (still working on shots from the other two Tigs/Sox games I went to). There are kind of a lot of them. Highlights below! (and remember to click the “read more” link)

Typical Inge.

Clete and Miggy shoving one another. They were playing keep-away/soccer with one of Miggy’s gloves. The game ended when Miggy booted it into the dugout.

It wouldn’t be a true Dave Dombrowski sighting without a striped shirt being involved.

How ridiculously adorable is this team?

That adorable.

Lots of shenanigans from Cabrera and Inge.

Miggy reacting to getting hit on the hand, and commiserating with Youkilis at third shortly thereafter. Which is kind of hilarious, of course, because not too long after that:

(click to continue!)

Youk got beaned. Which led to this:

You can see the helmet Youk had chucked at Porcello still in the air on the left.

I will NOT make inappropriate comments about Andy Van Slyke. I will NOT….

Sure, there was some baseball that happened after that, but as it mostly consisted of things like this

I’m not sure how much you really want to relive it.

As I said, many more shots from this game, including lots more from BP and the brawl, can be seen right here.

Once I’ve got shots from all three games online I am planning on a feature titled something like “Miguel Cabrera is an Idiot Manchild and That Is Why We Love Him,” because I will have more than enough material for such a photoblog. Until then, hey, this is good enough for an offday. Enjoy.

    Why not?! Hahaha.
Also that illustration is something else. How long did it take you? I’m boggling over all the details.

  2. im so in love with miguel cabrera and his manchild ways it is ridiculous! cant wait to pour over your flickr photos!!

  3. So, basically, this team is too adorable for words. Also, I don’t know how you managed to make me swoony for Gerald Laird, but somehow you’ve done it. Photographic magic the like of which I never thought I’d see.
Also curious re: Van Slyke, although I could hazard a guess… ;)

  4. Thank you for the photos. The flickr stream was like re-living the game over. And you even left off the ending. I thank you for that. :)
And now Aubrey Huff – he of the “dirt facial” – is a Tiger! Why is it so sad that that is the only thing I remember about this guy?

ivan, I’m not sure how long the drawing took, I kinda poked at it on and off while I was on the Cape. Nothin’ like sitting out by the ocean, relaxing in the sun, scribbling intently away at a piece of bristol board with a pen tip the size of a needle. ;)
Andy Van Slyke is much too old to inspire inappropriate thoughts in the youth of today, but when he gets all psyched up for a brawl and starts throwing Edwin Jackson around by his shirt… *cough*
Tiff, he is unbelievable. I feel like every time I see him, I come to love his idiot manchild ways even more, ha ha.
    PfP, don’t resist the G-Money! :D
Heitk1le, ha ha, I have to admit that the very first thing I thought of was the dirt facial as well. And the second thing I thought of was that Inge must be happy, and not because he might be able to rest his knees more often now, but because he’d gained another buddy…

  6. First things first, did you notice Inge (finally) shaved? Not only that hideous mustache, but the soul patch. halleluiah!!!
This team has THE most adorable players, without question.
I’ve read somewhere that Aubrey Huff may just be our new Shaun Casey….

  7. Curtis doing his impression of a 5-year-old girl, too much!

  8. This has got to be borderline blasphemy, but… Looking at that photo of Laird, I have to wonder… Is it possible that Polanco has lost his position as having the largest melon on the team? Have there been any special orders of extra-large catcher’s helmets? Inquiring minds want to know!

Jules, I heard/saw!!! Thank cats the upper lip thing has been vanquished. I’ll probably continue to draw cartoon!Inge with the soul patch, though. ;)
And as much as I am prepared to not actively dislike Aubrey Huff, nobody will ever be Sean Casey. Sean Casey was a class all his own.
Less, seriously. It’s like he is too adorable to be real.
Jeff, hmm, I dunno. Interesting question. Laird’s head is pretty big, but it’s not weirdly bulgy like Polanco’s– Polanco might need a bigger helmet just because his head is so oddly shaped, you know?
