things we can all enjoy

Pirates sock glory by Samara Pearlstein

LOVE the Pirates’ Crawfords tribute socks. Red on top, white on the bottom, gorgeous all ’round. You could tell the guys who weren’t used to wearing their socks up though, because they had trouble keeping them up properly throughout the game. But let’s be frank, if you have socks like that, you NEED to show them off at every opportunity.

Also LOVE the contrasting back pocket flaps on the Tigers. Oh man what a great look. On the home uni they’re navy on white/navy pinstripe. Last season I saw the away jerseys on a general throwback night, which also had contrasting back pockets that looked good. But those were orange.

LOVE the priceless treasure that is Rod Allen. “Ain’t nothin’ like a base hit and a stolen base to put a smile on your face!”

LOVE Armando Galarraga jumping up and down in the dugout, grinning like a maniac and hammering Bondo on the head while Bondo just stands there and tolerates it.

LOVE Andrew McCutchen’s crazy black and white glove.

LOVE seeing Paws in the Detroit Stars uni.

LOVE walkoff wins from Carlos Guillen that end in happy jumping piles at home in which nobody is injured.

OK, so maybe only the Tigers fans can enjoy that last one. Everything ELSE is clearly universal.

I don’t think Coke was used to the high socks either. He pulled something off one pantleg and left it by the rosin bag, and it also looked like stuff was coming off the bottom of his other pantleg? I was kind of surprised the Pirates didn’t complain about it, but it was by the rosin bag so maybe it wasn’t a distraction. I think they ought to wear the high socks more often though.

Do you also love McCutchen’s crazy eyes?

Also, thanks to the Braves for helping out tonight.

  2. I thought they looked like football socks. It was a nice change from the usual baseball look though.

Didn’t even notice McCutchen’s glove until you pointed it out!

    this is a super post…

I thought the same thing about the white on red stockings, but I thought it was cool that trousers slipped down, because I have a feeling that happened a lot in the olde timey days
